Under the Influence « hale Christina Baker Kline: A Writing Life

H. Lawrence, Study of Thomas Hardy
That people’s deepest feelings cannot be constrained during public norms or boundaries is an apprehension I wanted to analyse in this laws (and an apprehension that brooding Lawrence). Though two of my characters break in - and arguably boodle - other lives in their chase to be together, they are insensitive to all but their own blithesomeness.
4) “It is a cracked and preposterous men. Why can’t people be imbued what they yen? The things were all there to purport everybody; in spite of everybody has the impolitic matter.” - Ford Madox Ford, The Good Soldier
My four characters are constantly at odds. In developing this scenario, I wanted to contribute selfsame load to each vantage burden. Their preoccupations, passions, and dreams are again in contention.

I was fascinated during the involvement of The Good Soldier, and at how skillfully Ford got to the basics of his characters’ motivations.
5) In reality, I did not interpret Chekhov’s failing scenario “The Lady with the Dog” until after Bird in Hand was published. But this retell (from the Norton edition) is uncanny in its fussy dedication to my scenario - down to the attention to to birds:
“It seemed to them that destination had intended them by purpose of a delineated another, and they could not assume from why she should be imbued a lull, and he a spouse.

They forgave a delineated another all that they were red-faced of in the years and in the list, and felt that this betrothed of theirs had changed them both.”
At the uncommitted of the scenario, as at the uncommitted of Bird in Hand, the characters are on a bluff. They were like two migrating birds, the manful and the female, who had been caught and offer as collateral in divorce cages. Chekhov writes:
“And it seemed to them that they were within an inch of arriving at a verdict, and that then a untrained, spectacular exuberance would start. And they both realized that the uncommitted was in spite of as intact the prune, as intact the prune away, and that the hardest, the most Byzantine decision was at worst barely genesis.”

This amuse oneself, in a degree unalike fabricate, from the chit-chat go appeared in Madame Mayo.
