Toshiba Satellite 6 cell PA3465U series Battery at Batteries4laptop.com by Batteries4laptop

Pioneer FH P 80 BT

The most obvious upgrade that the ASUS Eee PC 1008P received from the previous model is the new look it got from top industrial designer Karim Rashid which the company hired for this sole purpose. It now brandishes a snazzy, scaly-skin covered lid that oozes nothing but class.

Asus calls it digi-wave and it does not disappoint. The cover feels great in your hands and it gives a much more prestigious look than the ubiquitous gloss finish that every other netbook uses. Furthermore, if you are keen on the masculine-feminine character of your gadgets, you have two colors to choose from: a matte coffee brown for the guys, and a hot, glossy, pink for the girls.

When it comes to size, the Eee PC 1008P is much thinner than most of the netbooks in its class. Its chassis is 1 inch thick and it holds all of its ports behind small caps that help keep the dust out. A VGA port is located on the left side while the VGA adapter pops out from the bottom area. Interestingly, this netbook only has 2 USB ports, unlike most other models that have the standard 3 ports.

When you open the lid, the frameless 10.1 inch screen looks wonderful. The keyboard and touch pad are laid out just as they are in the 1005PE, and they still have that soothing, rubbery feeling that makes it a joy to use.

As for the internal specifications, the Eee PC 1008P pretty much measure up to the other netbooks out there but with a full 1 gigabyte of extra ram to boot. It also has a massive 320 gigabyte hard drive for more than adequate storage space, and a snappy instant on software, called expressgate, which was able to effectively launch in only 7 seconds.

Everything is turning out great so far, but then comes the issue abut the power requirements. In order to keep the Eee PC 1008P, Asus designed this netbook to hold a measly three-cell, 31Wh battery. From the specs alone, it did not seem that this battery would be able to last long - and succeeding performance tests proved as much.

A standard video rundown test showed the ASUS Eee PC 1008P to last just a little over 3 hours, which is to say that it lasts for less than half the time that a comparable 1005PE can. This is where the convenience of having a removable battery comes into play.

Since the battery can be removed and replace, you can actually have a virtually unlimited run time for this netbook. The only question would be how many extra batteries you would be willing to stuff in your pockets.

The ASUS Eee PC 1008P is a superb netbook that definitely deserves consideration if you are looking for a well built, good looking, reliable, netbook that packs a punch. However, you will need a few extra bills from your wallet. With a tag price of $499 and about $50 each for extra batteries that you will surely be getting, the message is clear: designer netbooks don’t come cheap.

Photos have surfaced showing Lindsay Lohan sitting in a dark corner, poised to inject herself with what appears to be a syringe of heroin.

In other exclusive images, apparently taken at a sleazy Hollywood bash, she snuggles up to party pal Paris Hilton before sharing a passionate kiss with her fellow wild child.

[Click thumbnails for a larger image]

I’m not sure how old these photos are, but this is the first time there has been evidence that Lohan may have been dabbling in harder drugs like heroin, which is commonly injected.

Canon Speedlite 430 EX

We live in a society where all of our home electronics are becoming to gain intelligence. Whether your coffee maker knows when to start brewing your favorite blend, or if your cell phone allows you to obtain current traffic reports within your city, all of our electronics have started a new life. While this may be true for many electronics, never has there been such a vast improvement in home televisions than within the past several years. Now, most televisions are smarter than ever and have technologies that make them crystal clear and vibrant. One of the newest televisions to incorporate the latest technologies is the HP MediaSmart 42″ 1080p Flat-Panel LCD HDTV, Model: SL4278N. This television features all of the state-of-the-art technologies that make it a truly unique high-definition television.

One of the coolest features about this television is how you are able to actually access the Internet directly with your television. You are able to do this through the 10/100-Base T Ethernet, or if your home features wireless Internet access you are able to utilize the 802.11a/b/g/n network directly through your television. Many people may wonder why their television should be able to access the Internet, however, if you have movies and other media that you wish you connect with through your television you will be able to do so with this Hewlett Packard LCD television. This is just one reason why this television is unique and unlike anything else on the market.

Another feature that makes this television so special is the fact that it uses a motion-adaptive system to actually restore any type of visual disturbances within your image. If for some reason the color on the movie or show is not correct, this television actually corrects it, and thus it gives you an image quality that surpasses all other televisions. Also, with the ability for this television to be watched at a wide variety of angles, the worry about purchasing an LCD television because of limited visual fields is made obsolete. If you have ever owned an LCD television before, than you have probably noticed if you sit at an extreme angle from the television, the picture begins to darken and you are not able to clearly see what it happening within the screen.

However, with this high definition television, the LCD viewing angles have been widened, thus giving you the opportunity to have many people watching the same television without having to worry about one of your guests having a distorted view. This television is truly unique and once you view it you will completely understand how these technologies are all working together to make a world-class HDTV. While this is a great television, it is expensive, with an average price tag being $1,900, however, once you understand how this television can streamline your entertainment you will understand why the price is so high.

Olympus Kamera

Plustek Technology Inc. has released its latest imaging product on Thursday, the SmartPhoto P60. It converts old photographs into digital files for use as a backup, for sharing online of for use in digital photo frames. The size of the scanner is enough to make typical four-by-six inch prints.

The scanner can capture a photo in as quickly as 18 seconds, and requires no software for converting or scanning photos. The scanner ships with a protector sheet for feeding through older, damaged or crumbling photos. It plugs into computers using a USB port, which powers it as well. The P60 can scan photos at 100DPI, 300DPI or 600DPI.

The SmartPhoto P60 is now shipping for $99.

A lot more can be done with the look of the thin grey line, such as creating a jagged or curved edge that interacts with an overlayed image. I got a little weird and created some stalactites over a green unicorn with the Earth floating above and below the header line. View a screenshot of the complete profile using the ‘green unicorn hack.’

Image isolation in Photoshop is like using scissors to cut very closely around a photo torn from a magazine. Photoshop has a magnetic lasso, a magic wand and a quick selection tool to help you. There are a lot of guides on how to perform selections, here are a few that will help you:

  • A PDF on object selection and isolation
  • A video on object selection and isolation
  • A web tutorial with images on the Quick Selection tool.

I’m including the some example images to help you get started in a zip file at the end of this entry.

Hack Caveats

The hack falls apart a few different ways. The easiest is to post a status update that is long enough to wrap around to two lines of text. You can avoid this by posting your long status update, and then clearing it afterwards. View a screenshot of this problem. This leaves your current status as blank, but the update will still appear on your news reel and the illusion of the hack will be maintained.

Another point of note in using this hack is the display of your profile photo in wall listings. The profile photo is shrunk down quite a bit. A plus of this is that if you choose a long, 200×600 photo, it can look rather cool and set you apart from other Facebook people when you’re shown in a list.

Conclusion and Downloads

For many, your Facebook presence is an important part of your online presentation of self. You can differentiate yourself on Facebook by tweaking the look of your profile by using a specialized profile photo.

I’m making available a zip file that includes a number of original, layered .psd files that will help you get a quick start on hacking your Facebook profile photo. I’d love to see some examples of other ideas people come up with. Feel free to post or send me a screenshot of what you came up with and I’ll add it to this blog post.

Update
You can access the photo kit by following this link.

My thoughts EXACTLY. It’s not bad enough to have confirmation that pretty people were even pretty by the horrible, pimply, gangly, sweaty standards of junior high… now I’m worried that someone on the same yearbook page as my terrible, flannel-shirted, girl-with-hesher-haired, braces-having, deeply embarrassing 8th-grade picture is already famous and those pictures are out there. Ugh.

AD 117. The Roman Empire stretches from Egypt to Spain, and East as far as the Black Sea. But in northern Britain, the relentless onslaught of conquest has ground to a halt in face of the guerrilla tactics of an elusive enemy: the savage and terrifying tribes known as the Picts.

Quintus, sole survivor of a Pictish raid on a Roman frontier fort, marches north with General Virilus’ legendary Ninth Legion, under orders to wipe the Picts from the face of the earth and destroy their leader Gorlacon.

But when the legion is ambushed on unfamiliar ground, and Virilus taken captive, Quintus faces a desperate struggle to keep his small platoon alive behind enemy lines, evading remorseless Pict pursuers over harsh terrain, as the band of soldiers race to rescue their General, and to reach the safety of the Roman frontier.

  1. I faced this issue in the beginning of July. I'm just wondering why the standard “What was the name of your first pet?” or an email verification isn't enough here? I don't need an IP Whitelist for Facebook… or at least let me opt in.

  2. If they wish to continue with such a feature, I would personally recommend they append the algorithm powering this widget. For instance, they could possibly iterate the code, by only presenting images of the top three people you communicate on your facebook profile maybe? however, as this article as stated, this doesn't take in account disable individuals.

    Just my two cents,

  3. I just faced a really huge problem - I don't know whether tomlaugh or maybe cry? Facebook's stupidity is getting worse and everything goes in completely wrong direction.

  4. Adrianne,

I work for Facebook. I'm not sure how you tried to reach us. However, the best way is to email our press@facebook.com alias, which is monitored throughout the day.

This system is designed to keep bad actors out of people's accounts in instances in which their login information may have been compromised. We take several steps to make the process as painless as possible for the real account owner, but difficult for anyone trying to access the account maliciously.

For example, we use an algorithm similar to the one in News Feed to show tagged photos of people with whom the account owner is likely to have a closer connection. We also allow the person to skip up to two photos, and as you point out, we provide a way for the small percentage of people that does have problems to contact us so we can help provide access to the account.

We're constantly working to improve this system (and others), but so far, have found it to be more effective than other more traditional methods. If you have questions, please don't hesitate to contact us at the address above. Thanks.

  6. Sounds like another standard response from f- - - book…

@SimonAxten: Your condescending tone (I work for Facebook. I'm not sure how you tried to reach us.) exposes your condescension. In case you're new around here, this isn't the 1st bbq these guys have put together. I doubt it's the 1st time they've tried to get your company to talk to them. They know how.

I mention this just as an example of the attitude apparently prevalent in your company. You obviously think we're too backwards, slow and downright dumb to use the 'features' you force on us.

You left a comment, and that implies you read the article. Why not address the problem of folks who can't see? That was a valid point brought up in the text - where's the helpful suggestion that would make you appear to care?

Your comment here shows plainly that fb doesn't care about their users at all. I've read your comment several times and all I get from it is this:
'I am the voice of facebook and you will listen to me. We designed this system to do what it does. It was really hard and required all to go with'em, which is too complicated for you to understand. We are constantly doing this and will continue to do this, because this is what we do. Contact us for a similar response to all your questions'

    Fail.

  7. Good for them for trying to protect accounts but that is a truly absurd way to go about it.

  8. I just got this security check a few minutes ago myself on my friend's PC. Fortunately I had no problem but I can EASILY see where complications may arise like this article mentioned.

I'm not quite sure what facebook is REALLY up to with this check. Why are they paying this much attention to what PC we use in the 1st place? It's not like I entered a wrong password to trip up security. Ya know? I just used my friend's PC. I dont send out 1000s of friend requests or spam everyones walls to raise a red flag either. It seems shady and invasive to lookover my shoulder and question my integrity like this. No part of signup told me I was being cataloged in such a way.

If this is some sort of IP sniffing tactic or their scripts are somehow spying on our computer info somehow its obviously FLAWED and they're jumping to wrong conclusions. I think we have a right to know exactly what is determining this security check and how we are being “verified” or “questioned” for simply trying to sign on. Especially if we can be suspended an hour for something misinterpreted by their shoddy “spy” software & tactics.

If this is going to continue I wonder if the people at facebook are considering some of us have roommates/spouses/partners living together and shouldnt be used as a “red flag”. Or that we log into facebook with our smartphones, PCs at home, PCs at work, our friends PCs, family's PCs, sometimes the PCs at the library and school ect… The average facebook user has many ways of signing on and many locations throughout the day.

But a better question is WHY are they keeping close tabs on us like this. Then questioning our integrity when we havent entered a wrong password to trip up any legit security check other then using a different PC.
