Summary of Progress in Erecting the
Superstructure
The engineers all over the outline and execution
of the fasten together were Sir John Fowler and (Sir)
Benjamin Baker assisted former Mr. Allen Stewart,
Mr. P.W.Meik - Resident Engineer 1883-6 and
Mr. F.E.Cooper - Resident Engineer 1886-90,
and others.
The contractors were Sir Thomas Tancred,
(Sir) William Arrol, Mr.
Messrs T.E.Harrison and W.H.Barlow approved
the outline. T.H. Falkiner and
Mr. Joseph Phillips.
Thomas Scott, Manager, Mr. (Sir) William Arrol
personally supervised the manipulate, assisted by
Mr. W. Westhofen,
who was expressly affianced on the works at
Inchgarvie; Mr. A.S.Biggart, who was in
charge of the overview offices, shops and
yards; and numerous others. in to the fullest extent a finally entered on to the fasten together side
by side from the south close.
Operational Use
On 21 January 1890 two trains of with quotation to 1000
ft. Each file had
two locomotives of 72 tons each pulling 50
wagons. The unreduced load of each file was
900 tons making a unreduced onus of 1800 tons in

During 1894 the fasten together carried 26,451
passengers, 18,777 goods trains and 2678
light engines.
The unreduced load carried was
7,492,833 tons. By 1899 the standard load of
a commuter file had risen from 188 to 200
tons and that of goods file from 388 to 400
tons.
