Apple admits to faulty laptop batteries

Apple today issued a statement saying there are some known problems with MacBook and MacBook Pro notebooks in which the battery might have poor performance, but there are no safety concerns. These performance problems include:

laptop  Battery is not recognized causing an “X” to appear in the battery icon in the Finder menu bar
laptop Battery will not charge when computer is plugged into AC power.
laptop Battery exhibits low charge capacity/runtime when using a fully charged battery with a battery cycle count (as shown in System Profiler) of less than 300.
laptop Battery pack is visibly deformed.

Macbook users have been issued with a software update to fix ‘visibly deformed’ battery packs, among other problems

Apple has admitted that some batteries in its Macbook and Macbook Pro line of laptops have ‘performance issues’ and has issued a software update to fix the problem.

Among the symptoms of batteries that are affected are swelling, the battery not being recognised or not charging, and a shorter than expected battery life.

“The factors causing the performance issues do not present a safety risk. You may continue to use your current battery,” the company said.

Reports of problems, including swollen batteries, have been circulating since the laptops were launched in 2006.

In its support notes to users, Apple says battery packs which are “visibly deformed” are among the symptoms of battery problems.

The company advises users to install the update on all “MacBook and MacBook Pro computers and extra batteries that were purchased between February 2006 and April 2007″.

Apple has a support site up and if your battery experiences any of these symptoms you should download the software to try and correct the problem. If the issues with the battery persist, Apple has a replacement program in place. Information on their site will guide you through this.

Despite the problems, Macbook remains a successful range for Apple. The company recently reported that sales of its portable computers rose from 498,000 to 891,000 over the 12 months to March 31, helping boost quarterly profits to $770 million (£386 million).

Claudia Schiffer and Karl Lagerfeld Are Attacked by Fashion Editor of Black Lifestyle Magazine for Photo of Schiffer, Blacked-Up

I taken a lot of Images in the last days - please tell me your thoughts:

Claudia Schiffer has been attacked for offending black people after posing on a magazine cover made up as a black woman. The 39-year-old German supermodel wore black foundation and an afro-style wig in the photograph taken by fashion designer and photographer Karl Lagerfeld.

Lagerfeld had Schiffer made up as a black women in one of six photographs he took while putting together an advertising campaign for the vintage champagne Dom Perignon. The photos were published by German fashion magazine Stern Fotografie when it celebrated its 60th anniversary.

Accusations against Schiffer and Lagerfeld followed from Shevelle Rhule, the fashion editor of a London black lifestyle magazine, Pride. Ms Rhule said:

“It shows poor taste and it's offensive. There are not enough women of colour featured in mainstream magazines. This just suggests you can counteract the problem by using white models. I don't believe they deliberately set out to offend. They obviously see it as being arty and feel that they are pushing boundaries. But clearly no thought has been given to the history behind what they have done and the comparisons it draws with minstrel shows.”

To which I would reply: 'Shevelle, lighten up'. Her comment is the kind that perpetuates raw nerves about race and creates a path of spikey eggshells for people, black and white, to walk on. Society doesn't need race relations zealots, quangocrats or Pride fashion editors lecturing designers (or filmmakers or writers or rap singers…) on what they can or can't do. It's small-minded. Already an online magazine has responded to the photos with conformist knee-jerk political correctness by saying one of the other photos, of Schiffer as an Asian, is “just wrong”, scolding that Lagerfeld should have used more than one model in the interests of racial diversity.

Fashion, like fiction and film and other creative industries, should be free to play with any images it chooses. Did Ms Rhule also take offence at white French actor Gerard Depardieu recently playing mixed-race Alexander Dumas (using black make-up)? Or Eddie Murphy impersonating a white (jewish) person? Or black British actor Adrian Lester who played the white Danish prince, Hamlet? Or the black actor, David Oyelowo, who played white English king Henry VI?

Would she criticise images of Bob Dylan or the Rolling Stones dressed up as women? How about pantomime dames, women actors dressed as men, Eddie Izzard in frock and lipstick, comedians pretending to be children…?

As soon as you get into determining whether blacks can play whites and women can play men but not the other way round, you're proscribing the creative process and engaging in censorship. Clamping down on the arts in that way (even commercial arts like advertising) is as restricting as squashing free speech.

As for Rhule's comment that Lagerfeld and Schiffer were suggesting the photograph of a 'black' Schiffer would substitute for using black models in mainstream magazines - that's just plain foolish. Rhule then seems to have chucked minstrels into the discussion just for shock value.

In fact the photo was one of a series of six in which Lagerfeld was playing with Schiffer's image. Another showed her as a secretary, a third as an Asian woman. In a fourth she was dressed and made up as eighteenth century French queen, Marie Antoinette and in a fifth she was androgynous. The fashion shoot theme was fantasy and imagination. Lagerfeld wanted to play with Schiffer's face and Shiffer's image. He didn't want to use other models. He wasn't trying to portraying racial diversity - he was portraying imaginary Claudia Schiffers. And has every right to.

A spokesman for Lagerfeld responded to Rhule's criticism, saying she was taking them out of context: “The images were designed to reflect different men's fantasies. The pictures were not intended to offend, they were done very creatively and are some of Karl Lagerfeld's favourite images of Claudia. People should not jump to conclusions.”

Yet there are many people with vested interests in Britain and other liberal democracies who make a good living from jumping to conclusions and playing the race card in cases which can only trivialise genuine instances of racism. Political correctness about race and ethnicity has battened onto society like a barnacle on a boat. It would be a democratic step forward if those who have a professional interest in taking offence at 'racism' and other -isms would pick their battles more wisely.

It would also be good if the race relations industry ditched the term “people of colour”. What is it supposed to indicate?! What colour? Black? Dark brown? Sienna? All those and more? Does it imply that white people - with their variously pink, peachy, creamy, olive-toned, ugly red, bluey-white, brown or orangey skin - have no colour? Why aren't whites called “people of non-colour” then? Or “people of no-colour”?

Black and white are just words. They're quick and easy terms to use for those who want or need to indicate skin colour and they're neutral. People (like Ms Rhule perhaps) who want to take offence at one (and not the other) always will. But they're misguided. Countering racism is always worth doing. But cranking up and maintaining raw nerves unnecessarily does no-one any good. It just increases division between black and white and injects a zealous, scolding tone into debate which would benefit from more freedom, less 'sensitivity' and - in a case like the Schiffer/Lagerfeld photos - a bit of playfulness.

AMHERST, N.H. — A crowd is expected at a school board meeting to discuss the district's yearbook policy after photos were published of two students charged in a fatal machete attack.

The Souhegan Cooperative School Board is meeting Thursday night in Amherst.

Photos of seniors William Marks and Quinn Glover appeared in the yearbook.

Glover struck a plea bargain with prosecutors in exchange for his cooperation and pleaded guilty to felony charges of robbery, burglary and conspiracy in connection with the October death of Kimberly Cates, of Mont Vernon. Marks has pleaded not guilty to first-degree murder and other charges.

The husband of Kimberly Cates wrote to school officials saying the decision to publish the photos was disrespectful.

Re: Eldridge Cleaver – Why do you always bring up people's nationality? You're such a loser. Nice new username (Welcome to Costco) … another one of your usernames to add to your long list. Yes, you will probably deny it, but it is obvious as hell … you're the only loser on this board who would ever consider Gary an “american hero” … and such user just registered too. Every post of yours is negative. You are so unhappy and pessimistic … feel sorry for you, as I've said it many times. Going to end up alone.

Normally I post my Best Photoshopped Photos at the end of the year. But while browsing through my archives this week, I realized that I missed 2009. I don’t know how that happened — and nobody reminded me.

My Photoshopping of artists together began as a way of illustrating my posts — and because I couldn’t find decent photos of those artists online. Now it has become sort of a game for my readers to guess which photos are fake. Several of my sharp eyes readers guessed that the above pic of Common and Erykah Badu wasn’t what it seemed. I made that one easy for you guys.

No one guessed that this pic of R&B crooners Usher and Jimmy Cozier at a party in New York was fake.

Everyone guessed that this pic of pop singer Rihanna and Teh Ghey rapper Drake wasn’t the real mccoy. Lol.

I captioned this photo illustration of Queen Latifah and her longtime companion Jeanette Jenkins at her 39th birthday bash, as a compilation photo, and still no one guessed.

Though singers Ne-Yo and Jamie Foxx attended the same party at the Velvet Room last year, they refused to pose together. So I put them together through the magic of Photoshop.

Same thing with Mya and Gucci Mane. I don’t know why they weren’t cozy at the Velvet Room that night. Didn’t he smash that back in the day?

This pic of LisaRaye and Ginuwine was pretty obvious.

But not this photo of Rapper Yo Yo, left, and singer Tweet. In the original photo, there was a man between them. So I edited him out. That’s his shadow between them and his hand on Yo Yo’s waist.

Beware if you lift a photo from my blog this year — it just might end up in my Best Photoshopped Photos of 2010.

Following the footsteps of NBA Street and NFL Street, the FIFA Street series offers a more arcade-style approach to its sport simulation counterpart. The latest game in the series, FIFA Street 3 is the first next-generation offering. How does it fare against its predecessors? Find out in this preview.

Graphics
Although it was a choice of style, the character models look bland and uninspired. Fortunately, FIFA Street 3 looks great in every other department such as the incredible lighting, super-detailed environments and smooth animation. However, it doesn't look leaps and bounds better than previous games of the series.

Sound
Since soccer is a prominent international sport, FIFA Street 3 will feature artists from around the world including Bassnectar (San Francisco), Chromeo (Canada), Datarock (Norway), Hexstatic (London), Walter Meego (Chicago) and more.

Gameplay
As part of the Street brand, FIFA Street simplifies the game of soccer for a more arcade-like experience.

Several changes had to be made in the game to make the game of soccer more action-packed while maintaining the fundamentals of the sport. These changes include a smaller playing field, smaller roster of players and emphasis on style. As a result, you get a more exciting, high-scoring affair.

Style in FIFA Street 3 is important since it builds momentum for your team. To gain momentum, simply perform a few tricks with the ball. Once you fill the momentum meter, you will enter the Game Breaker mode, resulting in you getting new moves that will increase your chance of scoring.

Since Game Breaker mode provides an absolute advantage, gamers can easily spam the momentum meter by constantly performing tricks. This is because, like all other Street games, defense is kept at a minimum in FIFA Street 3. Basically, your best defense is a great offense.

Fifa Street 3 controls in the following ways:
Left Analog: Move Player
Right Analog: Drags
L1: Switch player on defense
R1: Use Gamebreaker
L2: Face Up and stall
R2: Hold to sprint
Circle: Shoot
Square: Lob pass on offense; aggressive tackle on defense; throw the ball longer as goal keeper
Triangle: Flick/juggle on offense; drop the ball as the goal keeper
X: Pass on offense; conservative tackle on defense; throw the ball as the goal keeper
Select: Instant Replay

Final Product
The shift to next-generation won't be complete without online gameplay. Luckily, FIFA Street 3 has plenty. The most interesting mode is the Online World Challenge, which allows gamers from around the world represent their country in a tournament. Every game in the tournament matters since the combined results of one country will be measured against others.

If you don't like soccer than you probably won't appreciate FIFA Street 3. Soccer fans looking for a casual experience, however, should love the game. FIFA Street 3 will be released in February for the Nintendo DS, Playstation 3 and Xbox 360.

WM Hits 2010

Dann schauen wir doch mal, was unsere Glaskugeln sagen…

Gintoki meint…

Weltmeister-Prognose:

A Product Review of the HP Pavilion DV6830US 15.4″ Laptop: A Mid Range Consumer Notebook

6 月 11th, 2010 by hatelin

Ann Livermore, VP at Hewlett Packard (HP) at OracleOpenWorld 2008 by momentimedia

{Wunderschöne Kunstdrucke für Geschäfte

Flying off the shelves right now are the 17″+ desktop replacement laptops. These are made by a number of the major manufacturers but one of the most popular desktop replacement producers is HP. I have gotten my hands on the 17″ HP Pavilion DV9727CL which is a mid range addition to their collection. I will give it a spin and let you know how well it performs for me and who will likely get the most out of investing in one of these pieces of machinery.

Hardware:

Imaging: A Bezel integrated webcam

64-bit 2.0 GHz AMD Turion 64 X2 TL-60 dual-core

Storage Space: 250 GB hard drive

RAM: 3 GB of RAM (expandable to a 4 GB maximum)

Optical Drive: a CD R/RW with integrated LightScribe dual-layer +/- DVD burner

Graphics Accelerator: the Nvidia GeForce Go 7150M (utilizing up to 1071MB of video memory)

Dimensions: 15.1″ x 11.2″ x 1.6″ and weighs in at approximately 7.7lbs.

This notebook feels well built and sturdy (but most notebooks that weigh close to 8lbs are). The outside of the bezel is covered in a sort of Wave design. I enjoy the design it breaks up the monotony of gray bezels we so often see. As a word of warning though, while it is fine for my tastes you may want to get a good look at one of these in person to ensure that it meets your standards.

The performance is nice, I love the 64 bit AMD, it runs typical applications strong, and boots quite fast. The hard drive space is enough that most consumers will be happy with. I like the graphics accelerator which is strong enough to play most games however I doubt it will excite the hard core gamers.

Connectivity:

Integrated WiFi

1 Ethernet port (to connect this notebook to a wired LAN)

4 2.0 USB ports (used to connect this notebook to a number of peripherals like a digital camera, printer, or interface devices like keyboards and mice)

1 FireWire port (designed for high speed data transfer between a digital camcorder or another PC)

1 SVideo output (so that this notebook can be connect to a projector)

1 VGA output (this is a typical monitor connection)

1 ExpressCard slot (so that a Bluetooth adapter or other peripheral can be added to this notebook)

2 audio out / 1 mic in

5 in 1 memory card reader (so that this notebook can have solid state memory from mobile devices directly inserted)

1 56K modem input (this laptop can dial up a connection with this)

I like the connectivity in this notebook I see just about everything I expect however the lack of integrated Bluetooth is somewhat disappointing. I like to see a television tuner or HDMI output in my desktop replacements however this notebook has neither of those. It is basically a very large notebook with only marginally more performance. Coming in priced at $934 I would shop around. I imagine that you should be able to find something a little better for the money, especially if you're looking during the upcoming high season of notebook sales (early August).

It may sound like the stuff of James Bond films, but face recognition is now being proposed as a way to give users a more secure way to log on to their laptops.

Chinese computer maker Lenovo is preparing to showcase its IdeaPad notebook, which is the first PC to feature Lenovo’s VeriFace face recognition software. The technology – which allows the user to log onto their computer just by sitting in front of it, using their face as their password – will be shown at Lenovo’s forthcoming Innovation Tour in London on 22 June, an event aimed at press and partners.
Facial features matched to photos

Lenovo’s VeriFace combines the Windows log-in and file encryption to password-protect individual files. It identifies users by matching unique features of their faces to photographs taken by the 1.3-megapixel webcam built into the laptop.

When Windows users start up their PCs, a camera window pops up in the login frame. The user then just has to adjust their position so their face appears in the window, and VeriFace logs them in automatically.

Unauthorised users may not get onto the system, but VeriFace does give them a consolation prize: the chance to leave a video message for the real computer user.

The software is a registered trademark of Lenovo, and currently only works on Windows XP Home and Professional, Windows Vista and Windows 7.

A few years ago Lenovo was one of the first laptop makers to fit fingerprint readers, and included finger-activated hard-drive encryption in its ThinkPad notebooks. This allowed people to use their fingerprint to log on to a computer, rather than typing their passwords each time.
HP “racist” software

Lenovo may find itself sailing into dangerous water, however, as rival laptop maker Hewlett-Packard found last year. HP shipped facial recognition in some of its PCs, but the software was branded as “racist” when a YouTube video surfaced showing the software and camera failing to recognise an African-American man. In the video, the software seemed to recognise the white woman featured in the video but not her black co-worker.

“I’m going on record and I’m saying it: Hewlett-Packard computers are racist,” the black man Desi said in the YouTube video, although he appeared to be joking and smiling through most of the impromptu demonstration.

HP was quick to counteract the accuation, attributing the problem to insufficient foreground lighting. “Everything we do is focused on ensuring that we provide a high-quality experience for all our customers, who are ethnically diverse and live and work around the world,” said an HP spokesperson at the time.

For years self dubbed tree huggers have been publicizing the world’s need to go green in order to protect the planet from harmful chemicals that could potentially impact the environment. Now it seems you can’t open a magazine or turn on the TV without seeing news about how to go green. Even celebrities have joined the cause with fundraisers and eco-friendly clothing lines. The go green movement has grown to the point that now you can go online and find laptops that are safer for the environment.

The Electronic Product Environmental Assessment Tool (EPEAT) has rated almost 300 laptops in an effort to give the public a place to find environmentally friendly laptops. EPEAT has a list of requirements that notebooks must meet in order to receive either their bronze, silver, or gold seal. According to their website bronze is awarded to laptops that meet all their required criteria, whereas silver means a notebook met all their criteria in addition to half the optional criteria they have for laptop computers. For gold, the product must meet all criteria as well as 75% of all their optional criteria for an eco-friendlier product.

According to the Environmental News Network (ENN) among the greener laptops reported through EPEAT, they favor the Lenovo Thinkpad X300, Toshiba Portege R500-S5007V, HP 2710p Tablet Computer, and the Apple MacBook Air.

Replacement Laptop Battery For LENOVO ThinkPad X300 Series

Specifications

Part No: ThinkPad X300 Series Product ID: NLV018 Battery Type: Li-polymer Volt: 11.2 V Capacity: 2400mAh Weight: 334.53g Dimension: 255.30 x 72.15 x 9.90mm Color: Black Org. Price: AU $ 112.04 Promotion Price: AU $78.35 (inc. GST)

On ENN’s news website they chose these laptops for their gold seal from EPEAT as well as for the efforts Lenovo, Toshiba, HP, and Apple went through in order to decrease hazardous chemicals in their notebooks. The Lenovo Thinkpad X300 has mecury-free LEDs in the monitor, contains an energy efficient processor, and their packaging materials are 90% recyclable. These were big pluses for ENN.

The Toshiba Portege R500-S5007V among other Toshiba notebooks has introduced alternatives to phthalates and other hazardous chemicals. The HP 2710p Tablet Computer is also energy efficient. In addition HP has said they would try to eliminate hazardous chemicals from their laptops including PVC. Finally the Apple MacBook Air contains an LCD screen that is mercury as well as arsenic-free. The laptop has an aluminum case that is recyclable and has PVC free components.

Several other laptop models including some Dell Latitudes, Toshiba Tecra’s, and HP Elitebook laptop models made the list.

It looks like going green has gone beyond media attention and into our electronics. Going green has moved beyond a trend and is turning into a lifestyle.

The goal of many laptop computer companies is to create a laptop that costs only $100. The purpose of this goal is to offer a less expensive laptop option for developing countries. Keeping the price at $100 would help developing countries expand their school curriculum and offer the opportunity to raise their status in the world. Recently, Gartner, Inc., an analyst group announced that though this dream of the $100 laptop is nice, it may not happen in the near future.

According to Gartner the cost of creating, packaging, shipping, and of maintaining permanent technical support makes it nearly impossible to achieve the goal of offering a laptop for such a low price. In their announcement analysts also mentioned other concerns.

Annett Jump on a press release on Gartner’s website stated that, “The economic benefits of IT literacy in emerging markets are currently driving the push for the $100 PC but there are many open questions that remain…These include determining the relevant hardware specifications, power availability, availability and cost of Internet connection, as well as providing adequate finance and payment options for emerging markets where funds may well be extremely limited.”

With such a great goal, it is of little wonder that the push for a cheap laptop is the top goal for many laptop companies. This goal is one that Gartner doesn’t deny is worthwhile; however, their main point is that there are more factors to consider for this cheap laptop including what specific curriculum needs are present in the different countries they will service as well as who will train teachers to incorporate this new technology into their daily routine.

So, when does Gartner believe the laptop industry will achieve this inexpensive laptop? According to their publication, it’s at least two to three years away. Although hardware has gotten cheaper and will most likely continue to get cheaper, things such as hardware and technical support are likely to stay at the same price. Until these additional factors become cheaper Gartner believes that $100 is far too low a goal. Currently laptop manufacturers have been able to reduce costs to between $150 and $250.

What Gartner believes will emerge as a more lucrative and expanding market is the mini-notebook sector. Jump was quoted as stating, “We expect to see increased product innovation in the PC market during the next few years…Mini-notebooks will create opportunities to reach many buyers across all regions, both in mature markets as additional devices, and in emerging markets as PCs.”

Maybe $100 for a laptop is just a dream, but it’s not a dream that won’t come true. This goal just needs to be refined a little more before it goes from dream/goal to reality.

Laptop computers are increasingly becoming more popular. There has even been data supporting the idea that laptops will eventually overtake desktops in sales. With increasing popularity comes a surge in laptop sales.

In a recent report from DisplaySearch Data, laptop companies displayed growth in sales. According to the report the top 5 laptop manufacturers are HP (Hewlett-Packard), Dell, Acer, Toshiba, and Lenovo. These companies have consistently stayed at or near the top for years.

Several of these companies showed growth; however, the most startling growth came from Apple. Apple notebook sales saw a 61% gain in sales. This gain bumped them up and into the #7 spot for leading laptop manufacturers.

Although Apple laptop sales are impressive, the big question is can they break the top 5? Apple’s sales volume is lower than those in the top 5. However, if they continue to make significant increases they may be known for more than just the iPod or iPhone.

There are many reasons why Apple laptops may be gaining popularity. One reason could be the popularity of the iPod and iPhone. Satisfying consumers with one product can convince them to purchase others from the same manufacturer.

Only time will tell whether or not Apple will gain more momentum and reach the #5 spot.

A Review of the Apple MacBook MB402LLA 13.3″ Notebook

Sony Alpha Kit by -DzR-

Lenovo

Because of the recent popularity of Apple's mobile computer line I've been reviewing Apple's MacBooks. I'm continuing with the Apple MacBook Pro MA895LLA 15.4″ Laptop. This is one of their higher end products and I'm going to tell you what you can expect to get out of them. I'll discuss where they're impressive and where they fall a little short. I'll also mention who will get the most out of them.

Hardware:

Processor: 2.2 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo

RAM: 2 GB (DDR2 SDRAM)

Storage Space: 120GB ATA Hard Drive

Optical Drive: Use Apple's Superdrive (CD R / RW integrated DVD +/- R and RW)

Video Card: NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GT (256MB dedicated)

Display: 15.4″ running at 16:9 wide screen aspect.

The screen on this MacBook Pro is excellent, it runs at a resolution of 1440 x 900 and looks very sharp. The screen is matte, meaning that it has no gloss and is very resistant to glare although I personally prefer a glossy screen it seems they handle direct sunlight better. So if you're going to be taking this on the road then I would opt for the glossy version. I like that it has a 16:9 ratio especially if you're planning on doing and intensive image or video editing. This is fully capable of multitasking Photoshop and other background programs. It is also capable of running fairly graphically intensive games.

I like the dedicated video card with it's own dedicated memory. Since it comes from the manufacturer with only 2 GB I would recommend upgrading through a 3rd party if you're going to do much in the way of multimedia work on this notebook.

The notebook itself is relatively light and only a bit over an inch thick. It is not as mobile as some of the 13″ models obviously but has much more to offer hardware wise. This notebook is made of metal and is heat resistant, it also gives it a nice sturdier feel when compared to the non-Pro models.

Connectivity:

2 FireWire (400 and 800, use these to transfer high large video files from your digital camcorder or to transfer data between computers)

2 2.0 USB (use these to connect your notebook with a printer, digital camera, or an MP3 player)

ExpressCard (use this to expand via the addition of PC cards)

DVI port (which supports VGA via included adapter, this is used for connecting to a standard monitor)

1 Ethernet port (use this to connect to a LAN)

Integrated Wireless (Connect to the WiFi)

Integrated Bluetooth

The connectivity is average, although I'd say it is missing a USB port. I like the two speeds of firewire included. There is no card reader which most laptops on the market today include, Apple doesn't seem to enjoy supporting them though, but you can buy a USB card reader (another reason there should be another USB port).

Ultimately this is a fairly powerful notebook and should be used by professionals or gamers. The MA895LL/A of course would serve the student well as well as the casual user, however for the money it would be more notebook than they would really use.

brutally honest review
I am currently posting this comment from my asus g50vt which is almost identical. Annoying lights, crap keyboard and annoying popups which tend to interupt gameplay when you use your function controls. However nevertheless a strong gaming laptop / desktop replacement. First thing I did upon purchasing was rushed out and bought a new monitor, keyboard, mouse and headset so i wouldn’t have to deal with the laptop itself, yet could still enjoy the power that it has inside.

  • Claudia Schiffer and Karl Lagerfeld Are Attacked by Fashion Editor of Black Lifestyle Magazine for Photo of Schiffer, Blacked-Up

    6 月 5th, 2010 by hatelin

I made new Pix in the last weeks - please tell me your thoughts:

Erykah Badu VIBE Cover Photo – Erykah Badu who is a magnet to controversy goes bald, nude and is tattooed from head to (almost) toe for one of June/July’s cover of VIBE (the other cover is taken by Miss Barbie Nicki Minaj).

During her interview with the mag Erykah spoke about the wave of controversies surrounding her latest video for the song “Window Seat” where she went completely nude to prove a valid point, to her children and her exes.

    On “Window Seat”:

“I look at some other videos. i’m not naming names, because I don’t want that to be mentioned. There is the thing with sexuality. I’m naked for 13 seconds, and these people are naked the whole time and gyrating and saying come “lick on my lollipop,” and “suck on my cinnamon roll,” and, you know, suggesting sex. People are uncomfortable with sexuality that’s not for male consumption. could be ‘cause I did it in public too. Do you think people would have been complaining if I had on high-heel shoes?”

On her relationship with Jay Electronica:

“I am a big fan and a supporter of [Jay Electronica's] evolution and growth as an artist. I write all his rhymes. I’m joking. I’m always amazed and impressed with the things he comes up with. He definitely does what a partner is supposed to do, that is, evolve you.”

On her children and former lovers:

“I was 27 when I had seven. I was already a vegetarian. I had been for 10 years. I had started making choices that would shape me for the rest of my life. I never thought to measure by each child. My children are six years apart. It wasn’t planned, just how the relationships rolled out. I’ve had three unorthodox marriages of sorts. I’ve had the benefit of having substantial amount of time with people, mind-building time.”

“Maybe it is wishful thinking that simply riding my bike 2 miles to work in the searing Texas heat will make a difference. Maybe it's crazy to think that if I stop buying needless crap, I might have an impact. Maybe I'm delusional in thinking that changes to my diet and where I buy my food from will make a difference” It's important to keep something in mind when you're riding a bike (which I do too), buying less crap, and eating locally. How much population would we have to shed or how much legitimate standard of living would we have to give up for *everyone* to do that? That's not an important question for you and me right now, because we all know that there are a lot of people who could never be convinced to make that kind of change.

But imagine everyone was magically compliant to whatever improvements we might suggest. Can we feed everyone? Can we employ them? The answer is not always “no” but we need to be careful when we're talking about thinking the problem will be solved with individual life choices that on the small scale are good ideas. They make us feel good (and maybe make us healthier and happier too). But if everyone was a local-eating, bicycling, useless-junk-avoiding person, would that solve the problem? Energy is important. Energy is important to a lot of the good and wonderful things that human beings can do. The more energy we have, the more we can do.

We shouldn't be wasteful of that energy. We need to rethink where we get it when we're doing massive damage to our environment to get it. But I'm not so sure we can end up slashing our usage to a tiny fraction of what we're using without ultimately cutting too deep into all the GOOD stuff we do with it. So until we can replace every non-wasted Joule of oil energy with a Joule of “other energy” we'll still have some sort of problem. Part of that is to cut the waste. I think ***short*** bike commutes probably help that, even with the massive inefficiencies of turning food energy into mechanical energy using a cyclist.

Not everything works out like that… probably even medium range transportation. And while it's nice to imagine a local-eating, bike-riding densely-populated needless-crap-free utopia based on how happy you are as a local eating bike rider, I think the reality would be disappointing.

With clean cheap energy, we could still deliver massive quantities of food (maybe food that was of vastly higher quality and less damaging to the environment) to a large population who lived where they wished. Cutting out all the waste is a worthy goal but beyond that we should be looking to INCREASE the amount of available energy while making it clean and safe for everyone, including the poor birds :(

We all know humans are not inherently self-sacrificing, and I think it's silly to hope they would be. My bike commute is MUCH more pleasant than driving 90% of the time. Eating locally and thinking about your food probably means you get nicer food that actually makes you feel physiologically better much of the time. Those aren't sacrifices, they're improvements. But cutting our **energy usage** enough to cut out oil entirely right now would mean major, serious, sacrifice for almost everyone. We need to work out the replacement energy, and quick. But we have to replace it.

The Kodak EasyShare Z7590 is a great mid-range camera for the amateur photographer who is looking for something with the simplicity of point-and-shoot as well as the ability for more creative control. The vast array of pre-programmed modes allow maximum flexibility in taking photographs in any kind of situation, and the manual override controls give you the freedom to take things to the next level. The Kodak EasyShare Z7590 also has the option of applying a variety of different accessory lenses, only furthering the ability to capture stunning photographs.

When I was in the market to buy a digital camera, I did quite a bit of searching in order to find the type of camera that would best suit my wide variety of photographic needs. I wanted a camera that would not only have the ease of casual photo opportunities with the kids in the back yard, but also have the features that would allow me to be a bit more creative with my photography. I quickly realized that the Kodak EasyShare Z7590 was the perfect camera for me.

The maximum 5 megapixel resolution meant that it would be more than capable of not only producing a quality 8 x 10 print, but it would also allow me the flexibility of cropping and manipulating my photos in a photo imaging software. The 2.2 inch high-resolution display screen meant that I would be able to clearly see a review of my photograph, whether I was indoors or out. Other features, like the high-speed, low-light precision auto-focus, continuous shooting and bracketing modes, and variety of exposure mode options made it even more of a sure bet.

The Kodak EasyShare Z7590 comes with 16 programmed scene modes including:

Portrait modes-portrait, self-portrait, night portrait, backlight

    Landscape modes-landscape, night landscape, fireworks

    Bright scene modes-beach and snow

    Action modes-sport and children

    Close up modes-macro and flower

Party mode-use for photos of people in indoor setting in lower light

Text/Documents mode-ensures sharp text when photographing documents

Manner/Museum mode-use when sound or flash are not desired

The programmed scene modes make it easy to change the settings of your camera depending on the situation you're in or the type of photograph you want to take.

There are also 5 color modes available to choose from, including: High color, Low color, Natural color, Sepia, and Black and white. These color modes provide for a variety of creative options when taking photographs.

As well as the programmed scene modes, there are also a variety of different manual controls with allow you to control the exposure compensation, aperture, shutter speed, ISO equivalents, exposure metering, white balance, and flash compensation. The custom mode setting allows you to create your own capture mode settings and have the camera remember them until you change them again. There is also the ability to set the mode of the camera to program mode, which allows the camera to set the optimal shutter speed and aperture combination; aperture priority mode, which lets you choose the aperture and allows the camera to set the shutter speed; or shutter priority mode, where you choose the shutter speed and let the camera set the aperture. And, if all of this weren't enough - the camera comes with a video mode as well, allowing you to capture digital video with the simple turn of a dial.

These settings allow you to have the freedom to have fun with your camera just by playing with the different mode settings and seeing your finished result.

Priced at around $299, the Kodak EasyShare Z7590 is an excellent value and provides enough features to make even the casual photographer produce professional photographs.
